Coffee Removed from USTR’s Retaliatory Tariff List
Dear NCA Member, You may recall recent Member Alerts concerning the ongoing U.S-E.U. trade dispute over aircraft subsidies that put certain U.S. coffee imports in the crosshairs of retaliatory tariffs of up to 100%. Today, we’re pleased to announce that due in no small part to our collective industry action objecting to these harmful proposals, coffee has been largely spared from the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR)’s updated list of products subject to these retaliatory tariffs. Under Part 11 of the updated tariff list, the only coffee products that remain are roasted and instant coffee imported from Germany, which would be subject to a 25% tariff effective September 1, 2020:Part 11 – Products of Germany described below are subject to additional import duties of 25 percent ad valorem: HTS Subheading /Product Description 0901.21.00 Coffee, roasted, not decaffeinated 0901.22.00 Coffee, roasted, decaffeinated 2101.11.21 Instant coffee, not flavored
On behalf of the NCA, thank you for joining us in voicing your opposition to these harmful tariffs. As always, we will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated with any new developments. NCA: We Serve Coffee. Sincerely, William "Bill" Murray President & CEO National Coffee Association of USA, Inc.
